Together A Memoir of a Marriage and a Medical Mishap Audible Audio Edition Judy Goldman Kathe Mazur Random House Audio Books Reviews

  • In TOGETHER A MEMOIR OF A MARRIAGE AND A MEDICAL MISHAP, Judy Goldman details the emotionally painful situation of an out-patient treatment that her husband undergoes to relieve chronic back pain only for him to wake up to find the unthinkable. The procedure has gone wrong. The doctor who performed it is nothing short of unsympathetic and, subsequently, there are many more inattentive medical professionals. The Goldmans are left questioning everything. Instead of throwing her hands up in the air, Judy takes charge and in an instant, the roles within their marriage are reversed.

Read about a couple who could have come undone, but, instead, they come together. Because that is what they do. A wife with vivid recall who surprises, perhaps even herself, and her husband with her once hidden strength. About a marriage that goes through the test of not only time but a medical battle and lives up to the vow ‘in sickness and in health.’
  • Judyand Henry Goldmen led a charmed life in their leafy Charlotte neighborhood. Judy is a published poet and the author of several novels. Henry is a successful optometrist and a competitive athlete. Her readers know them through a Judy’s poems and books, especially her heart rending memoir about the death of her older sister, “Losing My Sister.”
In one simple elective procedure their life changed. And, yes...this can happen to any of us. We eat right. We exercise. We work the crossword puzzle. Our mantra is “staying healthy.” Healthcare today is a scary world. Not to be taken lightly. Henry was lucky. He had Judy and his children as his advocate.
Through a life long habit of writing everything down to processs and make sense of her life, Judy kept copius notes of the ordeal she and Henry faced together. The results is this book. Read this book. Let it be your manual and reference. Laugh and cry with the Goldman’s but learn from it. You may need Judy’s wisdom in dealing with our healthcare system and her determination to help her husband one day.
  • This is a beautifully written saga of courage and love. The book is peopled with folks you want to know. It has wit and staying power. Thank you Judy Goldman for your willingness to share the intimate details of your family saga with the medical world and physical disability..
  • Excellent use of humor And frustrAtion in a unique situation. Would of liked a more descript ending but reaLity was who knows what the future and life wIll throw us. Obviously a medicAl error 😣
  • Goldman weaves together event and meaning with such a deft hand you feel cradled by her words, not lectured by them. The book is a compassionate, intimate and generous look inside a marriage that opens into an invitation for compassion.
  • This book is worth reading for anyone ages 40-100. Explains a lot about having an advocate when dealing with any medical tests, issues, etc.. Also it makes sense if you live alone, take a friend with you for doctor visits.
  • I couldn't put this book down. A true story of a medical mishap and a the life of this courageous couple. Henry had endured back pain and read, in the paper, of someone who appeared could help him. The day came for this procedure and it turned Henry and Judy's world upside down. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I highly recommend it.
  • Judy Goldman draws you into her story with her sense of humor and adeptness in bringing her characters to life. An enjoyable and engaging read....that left me sad to leave the characters at the end of the book. I look forward to reading more of her work!
